As we come out of summer and into fall now is the time to pacify the excess buildup of heat that occurs in the body during the summer. It is important to decrease the tastes of pungent, salty, and sour and to increase the tastes of sweet and bitter. This means to avoid sour tasting fruits such as pineapple, strawberry, and fermented foods such as yogurt and fermented vegetables. Now is an excellent time to be adding pears, and grapes to the diet. The sweet tastes of these foods helps to pacify the excess heat of the summer. This can be continued until the end of October when we are deeper into the fall. It is a good idea to fast one day a week on juices and warm soups.
Here is a simple recipe that can be a breakfast, dessert or snack.
Pears with Almond Cream
serves 4 as dessert or a light snack
4 pears, peeled and sliced into 8 pieces each
1/2 cup raw almonds, soaked for 8 hours & peeled
2 tbs. raw honey
1/4 tsp. vanilla powder
2/3 cup water
2 tbs. hunza raisins
Arrange the pears into 4 bowls. Place almonds, honey, vanilla and water into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth a creamy.
Place about 2 spoonfuls of cream onto the pears in each bowl. Sprinkle each bowl with a 1/2 tablespoon of hunza raisins.
