I am feeling depressed. What can I do?
It is important to understand the symptoms of depression. The often include anxiety, lack of energy, insomnia, and frequent crying. Neurotransmitters like dopamine, noradrenalin, and serotonin are composed of amino acids. When you are depressed there is often an imbalance in neurotransmitters.
Taking the amino acids 5-HTTP, Gaba, Glutamine, Dl-Phenylalanine, and SAM in supplement form will provide the precursors to many of the neurotransmitters. Supplementing with solid doses of long chain omega 3 fatty acids EPA/DHA will also be beneficial. These long chain omega 3 fatty acids compose large portions of the brain and central nervous system. The only vegan sources of EPA/DHA are blue green algaes like E3Live and Spirulina. You would need very large doses of these to get what is needed. If you are depressed I suggest you start with 4000 mg. Of micro distilled fish oils daily until you level off. Please avoid alcohol and self medicating with recreational drugs as these further deplete the neurotransmitter base.
The liquid supplement from E3Live called BrainOn Supreme would be beneficial as it has four times the PEA of E3live. PEA is the molecule of love and has a profound effect on depression. You should work up to 4 tablespoons first thing in the morning with juice on an empty stomach and wait 20 minutes before eating anything other than fruit. BrainOn Supreme is available on my website, and by plugging in coupon code “surf” you will get a $10 discount on any BrainOn purchase over $120.
It is important to exercise with 30 minutes of cardio 5 times a week and strength training twice a week. This helps boost neurotransmitters and balances out some of the hormone system as well as makes you feel better about yourself. Doing restorative yoga and deep breathing as well as meditation will improve your situation. These are outlined in my book Renew Yourself : Keys to Rejuvenation and Youthing.
Eat freshly prepared organic whole foods, and avoid commercialized and processed foods.
Doing a 7 day Home detox program as outlined in my book Renew Yourself: Keys to Rejuvenation and Longevity will do wonders for jump starting a new lease on life.
If your sleep cycles are off you need to address the insomnia which is discussed in my blog here.
I suggest supplementing with the Ayurvedic formula Blissful Joy which is available from upon request by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Taking the supplement Tripphala and hour before bed and avoiding cold drinks as well as following the suggestions on digestion in a previous blog post will help to remove toxins in the body that are causing sluggishness.
Doing abhyanga or self massage with sesame oil in the evening would be good and this is discussed in my book.
If you are on medication for depression from a physician do not come off the medication rapidly and talk with your doctor regarding possibly slowly reducing your medication. It would be better to follow some of these suggestions for a month before considering reducing your medication with your doctor’s help.
