Staying Pitta Balanced in Summer Heat

I’ve just returned from Rancho Santana Nicaragua where I explored some of the Nicaraguan surf breaks and an Ayurvedic Center for some Panchakarma Rejuvenation Therapy, which was very refreshing and restful.
 
Pitta Season
Hope all of you are enjoying the summer season. In Ayurvedic Medicine, summer is Pitta season where the fire element prevails. Signs of pitta dosha becoming imbalanced are irritability, anger, frustration, skin rashes, acid indigestion and heartburn.

Tips for staying Pitta balanced:  

Increase:
Sweet tastes such as sweet fruit like peaches, plums, nectarines, grapes, honey dew melons, cantaloupe, and especially watermelon. Also, astringent tastes such as lentils and bitter tastes such as green salads. Young coconut water, celery juice, and cucumber are very cooling and hydrating.

Decrease:
Salty, Sour tastes, and hot pungent spices

Avoid:
Mid day sun and keep the head covered, too much coffee, and nightshade family vegetables, such as eggplant, tomatoes, and peppers. Watch out for olives, pineapples and citrus which increase heat.

Sipping mint teas is good. Smoothies with e3live, fruit juice and blended bananas are also good. Rubbing the body with coconut oil in self massage is helpful. Activities such as swimming are cooling. Aromatherapy with rose oil is also cooling. Use of an air conditioning is recommended when appropriate.
